Lesson 3: Adding and organizing course content

Once you’ve created a course and configured its settings and format, the next step is to add content to the course. Moodle offers a wide range of activities and resources that you can add to your course.

Adding Activities and Resources:

To add an activity or resource to your course:

Navigate to the course where you want to add the activity or resource.
Turn on editing by clicking the ‘Turn editing on’ button at the top right of the course page.
In the section where you want to add the activity or resource, click on ‘Add an activity or resource’.
In the ‘Add an activity or resource’ dialog, select the activity or resource you want to add and click ‘Add’.
Fill in the settings for the activity or resource and click ‘Save and return to course’ or ‘Save and display’.

Activities vs Resources:

In Moodle, activities are things that students will interact with and that can generate grades, such as quizzes, assignments, and forums. Resources are items that students will use but not interact with, such as files, URLs, and labels.

Organizing Course Content:

You can organize your course content in a number of ways:

Sections: You can use sections to divide your course into logical chunks. For example, you might have a section for each week of the course or for each topic.
Blocks: You can add blocks to the sides of your course page to provide extra information or tools. For example, you might add a calendar block, a latest news block, or a navigation block.
Activity Completion: You can set up activity completion to track progress through the course. This allows students to see at a glance what they have completed and what they still need to do.
In the next lesson, we will delve deeper into backing up and restoring courses. Stay tuned!
